Our philosophy... what makes us tick?

We continue to take our lead from the wild.

AMS was formed In 1999 when we embarked on a profound journey of exploration, discovery and privilege. One that has taken us through the wild-lands of 7 African countries in search of the ultimate wilderness and wildlife encounter. For us, this has always been under canvas, at a remote bush camp, preferably at the end of a distant dirt track, and always around an isolated campfire. Often under only the stars themselves.

Our intention for the past 35 years has never been to push the boundaries of wilderness, but only to nudge those of our own and our clients. This journey has now magnified itself to do more of the same, and with even more respect, humility and curiosity than before. We continue to take our lead from the wild.

What is luxury?

Wilderness. And it’s not just a destination. It’s the the luxury of time, of space and of belonging. Simplicity and harmony with the environment, that re-aligned our values. It’s the fluid movement between our ‘gold star’ keystones of a safari or trail. After all, at the the end of the day it's not what we eat, where we sleep, what we see or what we have been told that we remember. Its what we feel.

Unplug on foot

Being on foot brings a level of consciousness incomparable to being in a vehicle. Not only are we directly connected to the earth, but our senses are heightened and our awareness of ourselves is intensified. With each footfall the smells, sounds, and colours intensify;, this is a significant wilderness encounter. If a game drive is like seeing a movie, then a walking trail is like reading the book.

People Power

Partnerships and long-standing working relationships, acquired over many years with local guides, trackers, polers, pilots and camp mangers on the ground add to the moments. Our meaningful collaborations with other like minded private guides ensure top-notch, fluid and professional safari and trail experiences at all times.
