OKAVANGO UBUNTU EXPERIENCE/ BOTSWANA
22nd - 27th SEPTEMBER 2023
OKAVANGO DELTA
In association with the Ubuntu Society, Netherlands
I AM BECAUSE WE ARE. WE ARE BECAUSE THE PLANET IS. That is the essence of Ubuntu. An ancient African code of living that suggests the following: "I can only be the best possible version of myself, if you are the best possible version of yours. Therefore we will inter-be. However, we can only do this if we look after the earth."
The concept of Ubuntu is possibly the most relevant social/environmental keystone in the world. Empathetic ecological well-being, combined with, humility consciousness and community support for one another, is essential to navigate the existential crises we are facing with hope and healing.
These are the ethics that determined the dedicated public service of great African leaders such as Nelson Mandela, Desmond Tutu, Sir Seretse Khama. In order to actually feel and experience that essence, and discover how Ubuntu can be incorporated into modern leadership, we are proud ato host the trail in association with Annette Mul and www.ubuntusociety.nl.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Alan teams up with Okwa Sarefo, a philosopher and wilderness guide from Botswana and a dear friend. Alan: “I first met Okwa in 2003 when I was working for a guide and training company. We have been friends and trail partners ever since. Our mutual love of walks and respectful encounters with animals is surprisingly similar.”
Okwa's Camp is located in the southeast of the Okavango, is fully mobile and set up in such a way that it has the least possible impact on the community and nature. Motorized vehicles are not allowed here; therefore the trip is entirely on foot and by traditional canoe.
Here you can directly experience the Ubuntu philosophy that is so relevant and rich in Botswana. The essence of the camp is simplicity and connectedness. There is no pretense here, just humility and appreciation for the isolation and the desire to protect it. . In this way, the local community benefits directly from the trail.
A campfire overlooking the lagoon and the plains beyond is the centerpiece of the camp. Facilities are shared 2 berth ripstop canvas dome tents (2.4m2) with sewn in groundsheets. Mattresses, linen, pillows and towels are provided. There are shared compost toilets and bucket showers.
