The Klaserie Pioneer Trail
Klaserie Private Nature Reserve / Greater Kruger / South Africa

2025 Set Departures Dates: 1st - 5th March / 13th - 16th April

What is luxury? We may have a different take.

For us, its about the solitude, the belonging and the simplicity with our environment. Its about special encounters with the wild. An inter-being. Our Klaserie Pioneer Trail offers unlimited doses of this!

Based from an explorers camp that was built in the 1930s, our trail rolls back the years. This unpretentious base camp, the first of its kind in the Klaserie, is a testament to the pioneering spirit of early settlers of the reserve, and is steeped in history.

The homely comforts provide a springboard for an unlimited and varied exploration of an exclusive-use concession. We can drive here, walk here and even sleep here. This combination, of meaningful space and encounters, is where true luxury lies.

Sizzling wilderness encounters,
hot hearty meals,
warm hospitality,
cold pool
& even colder beers!

Trail Keystones:

* Exclusive use of the base camp for your trail party.
* Limited occupancy of 8 people.
* Exclusive use of a very productive big game viewing concession. No shared sightings.
* Complete flexibility to curate routines, activities and wildlife encounters.
* Walking trails: tracking and stalking.
* Primitive trail (sleep-outs under the stars) are encouraged.
* Old school hospitality.
* Fully catered or self catering options are available.
* We aim to consciously curate our food-print by procuring organic/local/seasonal wherever possible.

Camp Facilities:

The main facility consists of an open sided thatched lounge/dining area, and an indoor lounge. A filtered swimming pool is a must in summer. And of course, a mandatory open air campfire for storytelling and dinner.

Game viewing area:

We have private use of a large game viewing concession of several thousand hectares. This means that there are no other operators in the area and the exclusivity is ours. In the modern era of safaris, this is absolute gold-dust!

The perennial Klaserie River flows through the heart of the area and game viewing is productive. Big game such as elephant, lion, both white & black rhino, leopard, buffalo and a wide range of suspects is normally excellent.

Activities:

* Unlimited open 4x4 game drives (day and night), walking trails and open air sleep-outs are part of the fare.
* Camp routines come second to the rhythms of the bush and game sightings.
* Slap on a backpack with drinks and snacks and head out on an age-old rhino path for a sunrise walk.
* Tracking animals on foot is a flagship activity and is freely available.
* Flexible meals, bush picnics and packed-meals ensure our total flexibility to get out there and explore.
* Multi-night open air primitive trails are available on request.

Suggestions:

* If possible, allow for a  4 night stay. That’s 3 full days of immersion.
* A recommendation is to spend the first and last night in camp, with 2 nights sleep-out.
In this way we could really plug-in to the trail philosophy and combine with immersive game drives.
* Small groups are encouraged, so we set our maximum at 8.
* Drinks can be pre-bought for your arrival.
