33 Years ago I met Mr Mandela

LINKEDIN, 8 FEB 2023

This is a memory of a watershed and incredibly profound moment in my life ... I'm the remarkably young looking guy on the far right of the photo! The pic was taken at a game lodge in South Africa, circa 1990.

It's been 10 years since the legendary statesman, politician, leader and empathetic human being passed away. And Madiba's legacy of reconciliation and foresight will forever be remembered around the world.  The philosophy of UBUNTU is an ancient African attitude and way of life ... it literally means " I can only be the best possible version of myself, if you can be the best possible version of yours. However, to do this, we need to nurture our natural resources" ... I AM BECAUSE WE ARE, BUT ONLY BECAUSE THE PLANET IS.

The concept of Ubuntu is possibly the most relevant social/environmental keystone in the world. Empathetic ecological well-being, combined with, humility consciousness and community support for one another, is essential to navigate the existential crises we are facing with hope and healing.

These are the ethics that determined Nelson Mandela's life and dedication to public service and leadership.

It is an honour to contribute to the launch of Annette Nobuntu Mul's UBUNTU MOOC in an effort to bring the principles of Ubuntu into mainstream industries. Principles of inclusiveness and compassionate understanding. Ubuntu, and what it stands for, is certainly not limited to Africa, it is of global significance.

Proudly associated with www.ubuntusociety.nl  Babah Tarawally, Henk Haenen, Kees Klomp, @Andries Baart, Mpanzu Bamenga, Kathleen Ferrier, Leontine van Hooft, Jan Terlouw, @Andre Nijhof, Laurentien van Oranje-Nassau, Jalli Lamin Kuyateh  @kubeshini govender and Kevin Chaplin.

I will be leading a specialist Ubuntu wilderness trail as part of this collaboration in Okavango, Botswana from 22nd to 27th September 2023. More information to follow soonest!
